Mythology

Eir is mentioned in the Prose Edda as one of Frigg's handmaidens and the best of physicians. Some sources suggest she may also be a valkyrie who tends to wounded warriors. She is associated with medicinal herbs and the healing arts, making her a patron of healers and physicians. Her name means "help" or "mercy" in Old Norse.
