Chokmah

Χ—ΦΈΧ›Φ°ΧžΦΈΧ” - Wisdom

Primordial wisdom, the flash of insight, the beginning point of all creation - Chokmah represents the first definable point of divine light, the seed of all knowledge.

Essential Nature

Chokmah (Wisdom) is the first flash of divine insight, the primordial point from which all creation springs. If Keter is the will to create, Chokmah is the seed idea - the initial spark of "what" will be created. It represents pure, intuitive wisdom that precedes understanding.

Chokmah is called the "Father" (Abba) in Kabbalistic tradition, as it fertilizes Binah (the "Mother") with the seed of creation. It is the Yod (Χ™) of the divine name YHVH - the smallest letter, representing the concentrated point of infinite potential.

Zohar I:2a, Pardes Rimonim 23:4-5, Tanya Chapter 18, Proverbs 8:22-31

Key Concepts

The Flash of Insight

Chokmah is characterized by sudden, intuitive knowing - the "Aha!" moment that precedes logical understanding. It is wisdom in its purest form: immediate, holistic, and beyond articulation. While Binah slowly develops understanding, Chokmah grasps the whole in a single instant.

The Point (Yod)

Represented by the letter Yod (Χ™), the smallest Hebrew letter, Chokmah is the primordial point of creation. Like a seed containing the entire tree, Chokmah contains all knowledge in compressed, potential form. It is the "beginning" referenced in Genesis 1:1 - "Bereshit" (בְּר֡אשִׁיΧͺ), which can be read as "with/through Wisdom."

Abba (Father)

As the Father principle, Chokmah gives without receiving. It constantly emanates insights, creativity, and new possibilities. The relationship between Chokmah (Father) and Binah (Mother) generates the six sefirot below them (Chesed through Yesod), collectively called Zeir Anpin (Small Face).

Zohar I:2a-3a, III:290a; Etz Chaim (Shaar Abba v'Imma); Tanya Chapter 18
