Angels & The Watchers

The celestial hierarchies, fallen angels, and divine messengers of Enochian tradition. From the highest archangels who stand before God's throne to the rebellious Watchers who descended to Earth, explore the complex angelology that bridges heaven and earth.

๐Ÿ”ฅ The Watchers - Fallen Angels

The Great Transgression

In the days when humanity began to multiply upon the earth, 200 angels known as the Watchers descended from heaven to Mount Hermon. Led by Samyaza and Azazel, they swore a binding oath to take human wives and teach forbidden knowledge to mankind. This catastrophic rebellion against divine law would bring corruption, violence, and ultimately the Great Flood upon the world.

The Book of Enoch names the chief Watchers: Samyaza their leader, Azazel who taught warfare, Araqiel who taught earth's signs, Shamsiel who taught sun signs, Sariel who taught moon courses, Penemue who taught writing, Kasdeja who taught abortion and dark arts, and many more. Each revealed secrets that heaven had forbidden humans to know.

๐Ÿ“– Angelic Lore & Wisdom

Characteristics of Angels

  • Appearance: Beings of fire and light, often appearing human but radiating glory. Some have wings (2, 4, or 6), multiple faces, or forms covered with eyes.
  • Language: Speak Celestial Hebrew, a pure form of the language used at creation. Their voices can shake mountains or whisper gently to souls.
  • Powers: Command elements, appear and disappear at will, read thoughts, see past and future, heal or destroy with a word.
  • Nature: Created beings, not eternal like God. Made of fire and spirit, they do not age, eat, or sleep. The Watchers proved angels can sin.
  • Numbers: Countless myriads - "ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands of thousands." Created before humanity, they watched the formation of the world.

The Divine Names

Each angel bears a name ending in -el ("of God") or -yah (shortened YHVH), signifying their divine origin and purpose. These names hold power, and knowing an angel's true name grants authority over them - as Solomon learned when he bound demons. The Books of Enoch preserve hundreds of angelic names, each encoding the angel's function and position in the cosmic hierarchy.

Notable Name Patterns: Michael ("Who is like God?"), Gabriel ("Strength of God"), Raphael ("God heals"), Uriel ("Light of God"), Metatron (possibly "One who guards"), Sandalphon ("Co-brother", paired with Metatron)
