Jord (JΓΆrΓ°)
Goddess of the Earth
The personification of Earth itself, mother of Thor by Odin. Jord represents the primal earth, the ground beneath all things, and the source of strength and stability.
Mythology
Jord is one of Odin's many consorts, and from their union came Thor, the mightiest warrior of the gods. Her identity as Earth itself connects Thor to the land and its people - he is literally born of earth and sky (Odin being associated with the heavens). Little else is recorded about Jord in the surviving texts, but her importance as Thor's mother makes her a significant figure in the divine genealogy.
