The Holy Spirit
The Third Person of the Holy Trinity
The divine presence actively working in the world and in believers' hearts. The Comforter, Advocate, and Paraclete promised by Jesus. The Spirit of truth who guides, empowers, sanctifies, and transforms. Manifests as wind, fire, dove, water, and oil - the mysterious breath of God moving through creation.

Theology of the Spirit
Procession of the Spirit
The Spirit "proceeds" from the Father (and the Son according to Western theology - the filioque controversy). This describes the eternal relationship within the Trinity, not a temporal origin.
Personhood of the Spirit
Not merely a force or energy, but a divine Person with:
- Intelligence: Knows the depths of God (1 Cor 2:10-11)
- Emotions: Can be grieved (Eph 4:30), loves (Rom 15:30)
- Will: Distributes gifts as He wills (1 Cor 12:11)
- Personal Actions: Teaches, testifies, guides, convicts, intercedes
Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit
Jesus warns that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is the "unforgivable sin" (Matthew 12:31-32). Theologians generally interpret this as persistent, hardened rejection of the Spirit's conviction, making repentance impossible. Not a single act but a state of final impenitence.
